WhatsApp is finally implementing the function where you can double-tap to like a message in a chat. Already available in different chat services, including Meta’s Instagram, this function simply lets you tap a message twice to send a heart, denoting either you like it or have acknowledged it. It is not a breakthrough feature but surely one of the niftiest, allowing people to respond to a message without text. news Also Read: How To Translate Messages On WhatsApp? Steps HERE

According to the WhatsApp watchdog WABetaInfo, the feature is currently in development, but testers can access it on the latest beta build. The report said currently the WhatsApp beta for Android supports the double-tap reaction, meaning it will reach Android users before those on iOS. But even if you are a beta tester, there is no guarantee you will see the double-tap reaction feature as WhatsApp randomly chooses users for testing purposes. news Also Read: 7 Best WhatsApp Tips And Tricks You Should Try In 2025

Double-tap to ‘love’

With the double-tap reaction function, you can respond to text messages, photos, videos, and GIFs directly. It is an extension of the message reaction feature where you can use any emoji, including the heart, but it involves more steps than just a double tap when you have to ‘love’ a message. The existing process involves long-pressing a message and then choosing the preferred emoji from the list to send a reaction. If you have used Instagram DM (Direct Messages), you must be familiar with the double-tap function.

The report also added that WhatsApp may not let you disable the double-tap reaction function and that could sometimes be annoying for users. Imagine you are scrolling through the chat to find an old message and accidentally double-tap and end up liking it unintentionally. Since the feature is currently in beta stages, WhatsApp may add the ability to turn it off before it makes it to the stable channel.

If you want to access the double-tap reaction feature, you need to be on WhatsApp’s beta channel. To join, go to WhatsApp’s listing on the Google Play Store and scroll down to find the beta programme card. You can tap the join button to enrol yourself in the programme if any empty slots are available.
