WhatsApp is working on a small but useful update for its calling feature, the ability to leave a voicemail if someone misses your call. There must have been many chances when you have called someone on WhatsApp but they missed your call. In such cases, you will be able to leave a voicemail to convey your message. As per a report by WABetaInfo, this option has started showing up for some users in the latest Android beta update. news Also Read: WhatsApp’s New iPhone Update Brings A Liquid Glass Design, But Also A Strange Mute Bug

At present, if a call goes unanswered, WhatsApp only gives the options to either cancel or call again. With the new feature, you’ll also see a third button – “Record voice message.” This lets you instantly leave an audio note tied directly to the missed call. news Also Read: Now Apply For Delhi Govt Documents In WhatsApp Chat, No Office Visit Needed

How The Feature Works

Unlike traditional phone voicemails, which are stored in the call system, WhatsApp’s approach is simple. If your call isn’t picked up, you can quickly record a message, and it will be delivered in the chat alongside the missed call notification. This makes it clear to the recipient that the message is linked to your call attempt, instead of just being a random voice note in the conversation. news Also Read: WhatsApp For iOS Gets A Fresh Liquid Glass Makeover Inspired By iOS 26

For users, this could be especially helpful when you want to share something urgent but can’t get through. Instead of typing or switching back to the chat window, the voicemail button makes leaving a quick update effortless.

While WhatsApp is still known mainly as a messaging app, these additions – scheduling, reminders, and now voicemail, suggest the platform wants to be seen as a full-fledged calling alternative too.

When Will You Get The Feature?

It must be noted that the voicemail-style feature is currently available only to a small group of Android beta testers. There’s no word yet on when or if it will roll out more widely, and iOS users haven’t seen it appear in the TestFlight programme so far.

This update comes shortly after WhatsApp introduced call scheduling and was spotted testing reminders for missed calls — a feature that will let users set alerts to call someone back at a later time. Together, these updates signal that WhatsApp is doubling down on improving its voice-calling experience.
