WhatsApp always brings new features, improvements, and updates to its platform to enhance the user experience. This time, the Meta-owned platform has come up with a new feature for iOS users that will allow them to translate messages directly in their chats. WhatsApp has rolled out the In-App Translation feature for iOS users to enhance seamless communication across languages.

What is WhatsApp In-App Translation

WhatsApp In-App Translation feature is a part of the iOS version 25.28.74 update. As soon as iPhone users update their devices, the option will become active automatically in their chats. The app will detect the language of incoming messages and will provide translation instantly. The instant-messaging app is using Apple’s built-in translation API’s to translate the messages.

Other than this, users can also manually select the source language if the automatic detection is not working accurately. WhatsApp is ensuring that the translation is happening precisely and is reliable even in multilingual conversations.

Support During Offline and 21 Languages

WhatsApp In-App Translation feature is available for iOS users currently and supports 21 languages, including Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, English (UK and US), French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Users can also download specific language packs to make offline translation possible. As soon as you install the language packs, you will be able to perform the translation without even internet connection. The feature works across individual chats, group messages, and WhatsApp Channels, providing a consistent experience regardless of the conversation type.

Privacy

WhatsApp focuses on privacy too, and with this new feature, all translations will be processed directly on the user’s device. It means all translations and messages happening within the chats will not be shared with WhatsApp or any third party.

Android users, too, have the additional functionality where they can enable automatic translations for entire chats, making multilingual conversations even more convenient and comfortable. These messages are translated in real-time without needing to tap each message individually.
