WhatsApp has launched multiple new features to make the user experience better. And now, WhatsApp is planning to bring a major update for the video calls on the platform. According to a report published by Android Authority, WhatsApp may soon introduce a feature that will let users turn off their cameras when getting video calls. The feature has been spotted on WhatsApp 2.25.7.3 for the Android beta version.

Whenever the user receives a video call they will see the option to “Turn off your video”. Now, if you tap this option then the camera will be turned off and the call will be a voice-only one. As of now, the users can disable the video call only after accepting it and not before that.

As for the new feature, once the user selects the option to turn off the video, WhatsApp will show another option saying ‘Accept without video’ for the same video call. WhatsApp directly opens the front camera when you are receiving video calls from unknown numbers. Now, talking about the basic ethics, you should avoid picking up calls, either voice or video, from unknown numbers.

This feature can be beneficial for users in multiple situation where they can’t turn the camera on while taking a call from their known ones. And yes, to avoid any kind of fuss, you can simply turn on the feature of WhatsApp that silences calls from unknown numbers. The same will show up in your call list but you will not be supposed to counter it instantly.

Keeping that aside, we already know that WhatsApp is going to launch a plethora of new features to offer better personalization and experience to the users. However, nothing is confirmed related to these video call features. Speculations are that it will reach the stable version only if it performs well in the beta tests.
