According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp beta update for iOS version 24.18.10.70 brings a username feature alongside a PIN for an extra layer of security. Having a username will ensure that users no longer have to share their mobile numbers with others to start a conversation. This is especially useful when you want to chat with strangers or acquaintances for only some time, such as a cab driver or a friend you met at a park. This way your contact number isn’t exposed, enhancing privacy. Also Read: Now Apply For Delhi Govt Documents In WhatsApp Chat, No Office Visit Needed
Additionally, the PIN feature will add an extra layer of security, as only those who have the PIN can contact you. While the username feature was spotted earlier on Android, we are spotting the PIN feature for the first time. Since it’s now available on iOS, we should also see the same integration on Android later. Also Read: WhatsApp For iOS Gets A Fresh Liquid Glass Makeover Inspired By iOS 26
WhatsApp hasn’t officially confirmed the availability of this feature yet, however, it should arrive on the stable version of the app by the end of this year.
Other than this, WhatsApp also has had a two-step verification feature for some time now, and it makes your account secure from hackers. Two-step- verification requires you to add a PIN every time you try to log in from a new device.
In related news, WhatsApp’s parent company is also working a a voice mode for Meta AI chatbot that will allow users to talk to Meta AI like a friend. The voice mode will support multiple voice themes to make it feel like a personalized chatbot. This feature was again spotted in the beta version of the app, but should be available in the stable version soon.
