WhatsApp keeps on refining its platform and improving the overall experience for its users across all devices. In the latest iOS beta for WhatsApp version 25.29.10.72, the meta-owned platform is reported to bring a changed and new iPad interface. It means, now iPad users can look forward to more intuitive navigation and design improvements.

What WhatsApp is Bringing for iPad Users

To recall, WhatsApp introduced a dedicated Communities tab for iPad users in its last 24.13.10.74 beta update. The feature allowed users to access all their communities directly from the iPad, rather than switching to an iPhone or other main device. In the new update, users will now be able to browse and participate in existing communities. Additionally, they will also be able to create new ones and manage group conversations efficiently.

Mac-Style Sidebar for iPad

The new beta hints that WhatsApp could bring a sidebar feature for the iPad interface. It will be modeled after WhatsApp’s desktop Mac version. There will be an organizer tab like Chats, Calls, Communities, and Settings in a single column on the left. This will allow users to navigate quickly and naturally.

Why the iPad Sidebar Feature Matters

The sidebar feature in the iPad matters a lot for users because, currently, WhatsApp’s iPad layout relies on the bottom tab bar, designed primarily for iPhones. However, on a larger screen like an iPad, the experience is quite cramped and inefficient. Also, it limits easy access to essential sections.

However, after the vertical sidebar is introduced, the problem will be solved, and the elements will be distributed more evenly across the screen. It will provide better visual balance and improved usability.

Users will be able to access multiple tabs at a glance without navigating through a small area at the bottom.

Sidebar Rollout Timeline

The iPad sidebar feature is still in development, and there’s no official confirmation about its release timeline. However, the app is improving and refining the feature in the beta version, so we can expect it to be coming in the near future.
