You must have tried Rapido for its bike taxi and auto rides, promising rides at affordable prices. Now, Rapido is stepping into the food delivery space with the launch of a new app – Ownly. It will a new app that focuses on delivering affordable meals, most priced at Rs 150 or less. The idea? Keep food costs closer to offline prices and skip the extra platform fees we’ve gotten used to seeing, TechCrunch suggested. Right now, Ownly is available only in select parts of Bengaluru, including Byrasandra, Tavarekere, Madiwala (BTM) Layout, and Hosur Sarjapura Road (HSR) Layout. You can find it on the Google Play Store, but it’s not yet on iOS. Also Read: Instamart Quick India Movement Sale 2025: iPhone 16, OnePlus 13R And More Deals Go Live Tomorrow
Instead of taking big commissions from restaurants like some other platforms do, Ownly reportedly charges a flat delivery fee. According to reports, orders above Rs 100 will have a Rs 25 delivery fee, while smaller ones within a 4 km range will be charged Rs 20. No hidden costs, no inflated menu prices, and no extra packaging charges, at least, that’s the promise. Also Read: Swiggy brings Incognito Mode for users; Here's how it works
This move pits Rapido directly against Swiggy and Zomato, two giants who’ve dominated food delivery in India for years. But Rapido’s pitch is different, cheaper prices, a zero-commission model for restaurants, and a more localised delivery approach using its huge two-wheeler fleet.
Of course, the food delivery market isn’t easy to crack. Many players have tried and failed to break Swiggy and Zomato’s hold. But Rapido seems confident, leaning on its existing network, experience with delivery logistics, and insights from its past work with Swiggy to give Ownly a strong start.
Whether customers and restaurants embrace it at scale remains to be seen — but for now, if you’re in one of the service areas and hungry for a budget-friendly meal, Ownly might be worth a try.
