Meta introduced Instagram Teen Accounts for children below age of 16. The teen account comes with several features that allow parents to monitor what their children are posting on Instagram. Ion a new report, the tech giant has added a new feature called built-in protection that will limit what kind of content teens are viewing and who can contact them.

Meta in its blog post states, “Teen Accounts have built-in protections that limit who can contact teens and the content they see. We automatically place teens into Teen Accounts, and teens under 16 need a parent’s permission to change any of these settings to be less strict. Since making these changes, 97% of teens aged 13-15 have stayed in these built-in restrictions, which we believe offer the most age-appropriate experience for younger teens.”

Built-In Protection for Instagram Teen Accounts:

Under this new built-in feature, teens under the age of 16 will not be able to go Live without their parent’s permission. Additionally, they will not be able to turn off the protection from unwanted images that they receive in DM without their parent’s permission. The feature is in testing phase now and will soon be available to all the members of the Instagram.

Other than this feature, Meta has also announced additional protection of expanding Teen Accounts to Facebook and Messenger. The blog post reads, “Teen Accounts on Facebook and Messenger will offer similar, automatic protections to limit inappropriate content and unwanted contact, as well as ways to ensure teens’ time is well spent. We’ll begin rolling Facebook and Messenger Teen Accounts out to teens in the US, UK, Australia and Canada and will bring the experience to teens in other regions soon.”
