Reliance Jio Hotstar is soon going to become a reality as finally the merger of Disney+ Hotstar and Jio has been teased. Disney Star has shared a teaser clip on its official X (formerly Twitter) account where it says, ‘a new era begins. The same is followed by a star emoji and What happens when two worlds of entertainment merge in the universe caption. In the past, posts shared on X and Reddit suggest that Jio has also started canceling the JioCinema subscription autoplay mandates. And according to first-hand experience, my JioCinema autoplay mandate also got canceled a couple of days ago. This clearly means that JioCinema is not willing to add new subscribers considering that the JioHotstar launch is on the cards and most of the premium shows will be shifted to the same. Apart from that, a few posts on different social media platforms have suggested that the TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) will also be live-streamed on Star Sports Network and JioHotstar. Furthermore, another post on X.com also shows that Disney+ Hotstar has added JioCinema Original and Colors Rishtey hubs that also hit towards the merger of the organization.
After the merger is officially announced, the audience will get to see all the Disney content including Marvel, Nat Geo, Star Wars, Warner Bros, HBO, Max Original, Colors, and more. In addition, all the major cricket tournaments will also be streamed on the platforms.
The OTT platform will be competing with the likes of Amazon Prime Video and Netflix as well in the Indian market. And it will be interesting to see how Jio plans to introduce the pricing tiers. Keeping in mind that the JioCinema subscription is only available for Rs 29, we can expect the JioHotStar subscription to be priced aggressively low.
