JioCinema Premium New Plan: JioCinema on Thursday introduced two new Premium subscriptions that finally offer an advertisement-free streaming experience. Following the teaser earlier this week, the Jio-owned streaming service has launched monthly plans for individuals and families, starting at Rs 29 per month. JioCinema promises subscribers of these plans will not see advertisements during streaming, except for live telecasts where advertisements are unavoidable. Other benefits such as access to the entire catalogue on the platform are also included.
Individuals who do not want to commit as long as a year to JioCinema can buy the monthly plan that renews every 30 days until cancelled. Subscribers get ad-free streaming, all premium content such as shows from HBO and Peacock, streaming on one device at a time, downloads, and streaming up to 4K quality. While the actual cost of this plan is Rs 59, JioCinema is offering it at Rs 29 as part of a “special offer.” The existing annual plan costs Rs 999, so the monthly plan will be cheaper as long as the special offer price continues.
This is an extension of the Rs 29 plan but for families. All the benefits such as ad-free streaming and access to premium content are there, but it allows concurrent streaming on up to four devices. Valid for a month, this plan also renews every 30 days until cancelled.
With the fresh launches, JioCinema hopes to undercut big rivals such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Netflix starts at Rs 149 monthly, while Prime Video’s monthly and yearly plans cost Rs 129 and Rs 1,499, respectively. JioCinema’s plans are way more affordable than its rivals’ plans, but everything comes down to its content library. Netflix has some of the best international shows and a global appeal, but Prime Video has award-winning shows from India and around the world. JioCinema has good TV content, and after the deals with international production houses such as HBO, it has lucrative shows such as House of the Dragon, The Succession, and The Office. JioCinema also has rights to stream Indian Premiere League (IPL) matches for up to five years, giving it an upper hand.
