According to the vulnerability note CIVN-2025-0204, dated September 8, 2025, the warning applies to Chrome versions older than 140.0.7339.80/81 on Windows and Mac, and older than 140.0.7339.80 on Linux. What’s the Risk?

According to CERT-In, the flaws could let cybercriminals remotely break into your system just by luring you to a malicious website. Hackers could use these flaws to steal your personal data, mess with your system, or even take over your device completely. news Also Read: How To Create Unique Rangoli Designs For Diwali Using Gemini Nano Banana AI Tool: Check Prompt

Put simply, if your Chrome isn’t updated, a hacker could trick you into clicking a link and then run their own code on your computer.

What’s Behind the Issue?

The problems are linked to technical weaknesses in Chrome, including:

  • A “use-after-free” bug in V8, Chrome’s JavaScript engine.
  • Improper implementations in Toolbar, Extensions, and Downloads.

The technical details might sound complicated, but the bottom line is clear – these bugs make it easier for attackers to slip past Chrome’s security.

What You Should Do Right Now?

The good news is that Google has already rolled out fixes. All you need to do is update Chrome to the latest version. Here’s how:

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots in the top-right corner > Help > About Google Chrome.
  3. Chrome will check for updates automatically. Restart once the update is done.

Since Chrome is the world’s most popular browser, it’s always a prime target for cybercriminals. Installing updates as soon as they’re available is the easiest way to stay safe.

Don’t wait – update Chrome today to protect your data and your device.
