Google Photos is rolling out a fresh update to increase the user engagement and simplifying the app. The feature is a dedicated ‘Create’ tab to its interface. By introducing this feature, the company aims to make creative tools more accessible for users.
The tech giant decided to bring this update immediately after the app simplified its bottom navigation bar earlier this year, and the new tab now sits neatly between Collections and Search/Ask, marked by a small paintbrush icon.
There is a new Create section that acts as a central hub for all of Google Photos. This icludes editing and creative features in the app. In addition, the top banner currently spotlights the Photo to Video option, and hence, this feature now turns still images into short, dynamic six-second video clips. Below that, users will also find a ‘Your tools’ grid that displays several features, including :
While the interface showcases each feature with live previews, the animated cards playing at once can feel a bit visually busy.
Users will also find a carousel of 16 collage templates for more personalized layouts. The Highlight video section helps kickstart edits by suggesting people, locations, and activities from your library.
Despite this new addition, the plus (+) menu in the top-right corner remains available. It still offers quick access to making new albums, ordering prints, and importing media. Interestingly, some creative tools like Collage, Animation, and Cinematic Photos appear in both menus, creating a slight overlap in options.
The Create tab is gradually being released with Google Photos version 7.40 on Android, with iOS users also set to receive it. However, it is not yet widely available for all devices, so users may need to wait a little before seeing it on their apps.
