Google has rolled out a bunch of new and interesting features to its video conferencing platform, Google Meet. While some of these features are aimed at making calls and conversations on Meet simpler, others bring new features to the platform. Google Meet’s new feature will let users to use emojis to share in-meeting reactions in Google Meet on Web, Meet hardware devices, and iOS. Google Meet’s Android app will get this feature soon. Google says that these reactions will show as a small badge in the sender’s video tile and floating up the left side of the screen. When there are multiple user engagements, users will see a burst of emojis on the left side of your screen. As far as availability is concerned, Google says it has already started rolling out this feature and that all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers and personal account holders within a few days.
Google Meet is also getting 360-degree background on Android and iOS. This feature will take advantage of the gyroscope data from users’ smartphones to provide, well, 360-degree backgrounds in video format its mobile apps. At the time of launch, users will be able to pick from Oasis, Sky City, and Mountain Temple options. The company will introduce more options soon.
As far as availability is concerned, the feature will be available to Workspace’s paid and free users in the coming days.
As of now, when users start a new Google Chat conversation on the web, they are prompted to select “Start group conversation” before typing the name(s) of who they would like to chat with. But now, Google is making this journey a bit simpler in. Google said that starting today, the process to create conversations in Chat will be much simpler by combining the flow for creating one-on-one conversations and group conversations. “We’re removing the “Start group conversation” option and enabling you to create conversations with the desired number of recipients right away by simply typing the names of the recipient(s),” Google wrote in a blog post.
As far as availability is concerned, Google said that it has started rolling out this feature to all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers and users with personal Google Accounts and that users across the globe should get the feature in a few days.
