Google has been slowly supercharging Google Maps with AI-powered features. Last month, the company brought generative AI powered recommendations to Maps. And now, the company has introduced new features that will help users make a perfect itinerary for their vacation and discover new and hidden places in the neighbourhoods that they are exploring.
Get recommendations with new updates
This feature will help travelers discover new places from helpful lists from top sites and the Google Maps community. It will bring three new lists to Google Maps from which users can pick places to explore. These lists are:
— Trending list: It will be updated weekly with places that have recently seen a spike in popularity on Maps.
— Top list: It will show places the Maps community has consistently loved.
— Gems list: It will show hidden gems in a neighborhood.
As far as availability is concerned, Google Maps has started rolling out this feature in 40 cities in the US and Canada. It is expected to be available globally later this year.
List
This feature will let Google Maps users create a list of places that they want to visit and organise the ones that they have already visited. To create a list all users’ need to do is tap the ‘New list’ button in the Saved tab and add new places to it as they look for it on Maps.
Google says that in addition to creating a list, users can also change the order in which all the added places appear to make it more useful. Users can also move a place up or down when they have visited the location. Additionally, users can also link content from their social media handles to their list.
This feature will be available on Android and iOS later this month.
Highlights at a Glance
This AI-powered feature will show insights from the Google Maps community. Google says that users can pull up a place on Maps and see photos and reviews that summarise what people love about it.
The company also said that When users search for a restaurant and scrol through photos of the food, Maps will now to help users identify what a dish is called and show helpful information based on the menu so that users know what to expect and if they would like to make a reservation.
Google has already started rolling out this feature to Maps users globally.
In addition to getting new AI-powered features, Google Maps is also getting a makeover. The redesigned Maps app will include a cleaner home screen with fewer tabs, and new pin colors that make it easier to find places on the map.
