There must have been many chances when you liked something while scrolling your Instagram reels or went out to chill out with friends but spotted an item which you needed desperately. To help you find those items quickly, Amazon has introduced Lens Live, which is powered by AI.
How does it work? As soon as you open Amazon Lens, the camera starts detecting the item in front of you and instantly shows top matches in a carousel at the bottom. You can tap on any product in the live view to refine results, add it straight to your cart with the plus icon, or save it for later with the heart icon.
Right below the carousel, Amazon also highlights quick product details and even suggests conversational prompts powered by its AI assistant Rufus, so you can ask follow-up questions or get short explanations without leaving the screen. And yes, traditional options like clicking a photo, uploading an image, or scanning a barcode are still there.
It’s worth noting that Lens Live isn’t replacing Amazon Lens entirely. The older tools like barcode scanning or uploading images remain available. Instead, Lens Live simply adds a real-time camera mode, so you can point your phone at an object and get instant results, very similar to how Google Lens or Pinterest Lens works.
While Amazon doesn’t go too deep into the tech for shoppers, Lens Live actually combines on-device AI (to recognise objects instantly through your camera) with Amazon’s massive cloud systems that search billions of product listings. Services like Amazon OpenSearch and SageMaker handle the heavy lifting in the background, so results feel fast and accurate.
Amazon is rolling out the Lens Live to your shopping app for iPhone users first in the US. However, its availability will be expanded in the coming weeks. When will it be rolled out in India? It is still unknown.
