Microsoft Teams gets more Copilot powered features for smarter, swifter meetings

Microsoft has rolled out a bunch of new Copilot features to Microsoft Teams. From Intelligent call recap to speaker recognition capabilities, here's what's new.

Copilot in Meetings

Microsoft says that Copilot will now provide insights from the meeting chat in addition to the meeting transcript. When users open Copilot in the meeting chat, they will have a more comprehensive and inclusive view of what was covered in the meeting, which includes transcript of what was spoken and what written in the chat.

With this feature, users can prompt Copilot to adjust their messages and provide a custom rewritten version. Users will also be able to generate a new message with a prompt by typing just a few words in Teams chat. This feature will be available later in April 2024.

This feature will provide AI-powered insights and recaps of users' VoIP and Public Switched Telephone Network calls in Teams. It will be generally available in June with Teams Premium and Copilot.

This feature will let hybrid meeting attendees to see people in Teams Rooms more clearly. It uses Cloud AI to identify and capture individual video feeds of each in-room participant.

Automatic camera switching for IntelliFrame

This feature will become available later this year. This feature uses AI to determine and select the optimised view of each person in a meeting room. Microsoft says that if a camera view for someone in the room becomes obstructed, another camera view will be chosen to provide remote participants with a clear view.

Speaker Recognition capabilities

This feature will improve transcript accuracy for any existing microphone. When a user joins a meeting from a Teams Room, what they say in the meeting is isolated and will be attributed to them in the transcript, simply by enrolling their voice and face profiles. It will be available in public preview in April 2024.

Voice Isolation

This feature will help users ensure that only their voice is heard during a meeting even if there is noise in the background. This AI-based advanced noise suppression feature will isolate users' voice and eliminate all other background noise—including other people’s voices. It will be generally available in April 2024.
