Asus launched the ROG Ally as a first-of-its-kind portable gaming console priced at Rs 69,990 in India. Unlike other handheld consoles, this one runs on Windows 11 and has the powerful Ryzen Zen 1 Extreme chip, which means you can play games from Steam and Game Pass. While there aren't any exact similar devices available in India, there are a few options you can consider. Let's take a look.
Steam Deck is probably the closest alternative to ROG Ally. It has a 7-inch display with a 60Hz refresh rate and is powered by AMD Zen 2 CPU with RDNA GPU. It has 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of storage. The Steam Deck isn't officially available but can be purchased from third-party vendors for Rs 50,000.
Nintendo Switch is another handheld gaming console that you can consider. However, only supported games will run on it unlike ROG Ally, which lets you play games from several different platforms. It features a 7-inch OLED display and has 64GB of storage priced at Rs 34,999 on Amazon.
If you are not a hardcore console or PC gamer, you can consider something like an Apple iPad. iPad Air M1 or any other recent iPad should be good for casual gaming. Do note that you will have to download mobile games via the App Store. That said, no console or PC games here.
If you are in a dilemma of whether to consider a gaming console or a smartphone, then you can have a look at the ROG Phone 7. The Asus ROG Phone 7 is priced starting at Rs 74,999, which is pricier than the ROG Ally, but can let you do multiple things such as calling and mobile gaming. But again, it will only let you play mobile games, which means the games that are available on Play Store.
