WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that lets users create personalised chat wallpapers using artificial intelligence (AI). With the latest update for iOS and Android, users can generate wallpapers by typing prompts, tweak them, and set them as their chat backgrounds. Alongside this, WhatsApp is also working on a structured message replies feature, aimed at improving how conversations are viewed and followed in chats. After updating to WhatsApp for iOS version 25.19.75, some users can access a new “Create with AI” option by going to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme > Chat theme. This feature is gradually rolling out to users on the stable version for iOS and is already working on WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.207). Once the feature is enabled, users can type a prompt describing the kind of wallpaper they want. WhatsApp, powered by Meta AI, will then generate multiple images based on the description. Users can swipe through the previews at the bottom and select the one they like. Also Read: WhatsApp’s New iPhone Update Brings A Liquid Glass Design, But Also A Strange Mute Bug
If the results aren’t quite right, users can tap “Make changes” to refine the prompt and regenerate new wallpapers. Before setting the final image, WhatsApp allows users to adjust its position and tweak the brightness — especially useful when dark mode is turned on.
WhatsApp is also developing another feature: threaded replies. This feature will allow users to view replies in a more organised, thread-like format — similar to what apps like iMessage already offer. This could help users follow conversations more clearly, especially in busy group chats.
While the threaded replies feature is still under development, it’s expected to roll out to beta testers on iOS and Android in a future update.
