The tech layoffs are constantly haunting professionals even in 2025. Recently, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has warned that the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the corporate workforce will eventually lead to job cuts. Now, another tech giant, Microsoft, is in the queue to take down several roles.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Microsoft plans to cut thousands of jobs as it focuses more on AI. Mainly, the sales department is expected to face the impact of it, the report added. While nothing has been officially announced yet, the layoffs are expected early next month, which will be the end of Microsoft’s fiscal year. The report further suggested that the impact of the incorporation of AI within the organisation may not only impact the sales team but may also affect other teams too. Also, the timeline of the layoff may vary too.
If you are thinking that this has happened before, then you are right. The expected layoffs will be the second round of layoffs by the tech giant in 2025, as Microsoft has recently fired around 6,000 employees in May, which is said to be 3 percent of its global workforce. Back in May, CEO Satya Nadella also suggested that the move of layoffs was part of restructuring as the company is focusing more on evolving priorities, including artificial intelligence.
The latest layoffs at Microsoft are assumed to be part of big decisions that are expected in the AI space. The report suggests that the US-based tech giant is planning to spend around $80 billion on AI this year to meet the growing demand for AI services.
Back in June 2024, the reports suggested that Microsoft has 228,000 employees, and 45,000 of them are in sales and marketing. However, the latest set of layoffs may change the structure.
