Redmi might be gearing up to launch a complete new display overhaul with their upcoming Redmi K90 series. Some new leaks suggest that a new 6.59-inch 2K LTPS flat panel is currently in development and being tested for the Redmi K90 lineup.
This new display might sound like a slight downgrade from the K80’s 6.67-inch AMOLED, but it could actually be a major quality leap. Reports suggest this panel will offer flagship-level pixel density that might lead to improved sharpness and overall better visuals. The display will mostly be more modern with slimmer bezels giving the K90 series a sleeker and more immersive aesthetic.
The Redmi K90 series displays are rumoured to be built using next-generation materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. This blurs the line between mid-range and premium, bringing near-flagship quality to the K90 series
For reference, the K80 Pro’s display was developed with TCL CSOT, featuring M9 luminescent material, 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 3200 nits of peak brightness. Whether TCL CSOT is also behind the new K90 panel isn’t confirmed, but Xiaomi’s long-standing collaboration with them makes it a strong possibility.
TCL has previously supplied display tech for Xiaomi flagships like the Xiaomi 15S Pro that used C9 luminescent material and a dual-microcavity design to improve brightness and efficiency.
This means that the Redmi K90 Series will get a smaller but sharper display compared to the K80. It will mostly have a flat panel design which makes it better for gamers and will come with improved brightness, efficiency, and colour reproduction.
While this leak says that the K90 series will come with a 6.59-inch 2K LTPS flat panel, it’s still expected to bring great value for money devices. If Redmi manages to deliver all this without bumping up the price tag too much, the K90 could be a visual powerhouse and a perfect candidate to be a budget flagship killer.
