Microsoft just launched two new Surface devices, and they’re all about AI, sleek designs, and serious battery life. The two new laptops are the 13-inch Surface Laptop and the 12-inch Surface Pro, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus chip and built to take full advantage of Windows 11’s AI features.
The Snapdragon X Plus is different from traditional Intel or AMD processors that use x86 architecture. Instead, it’s built on ARM architecture, the same kind found in most smartphones and Apple’s M-series Macs. This design offers major benefits like improved power efficiency and longer battery life. However, one of the main challenges is that most popular Windows apps are still built for x86, requiring translation layers to run properly on ARM. With Microsoft and Qualcomm working closely together, this compatibility gap is quickly shrinking and making ARM-based Windows laptops a lot more better than ever.
Talking more about the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core processor, it features a 45 TOPS NPU (Neural Processing Unit), making it ideal for handling next-gen AI tasks directly on the device. Microsoft is pushing AI integration across Windows 11, and these machines are built to showcase everything from smarter File Explorer actions to enhanced Notepad functionality and deeper Copilot integration.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop keeps the traditional clamshell design but improves on the internals. It features a 13-inch PixelSense display with a 1920×1280 resolution, powered by 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and Snapdragon X Plus. It gets 2 Storage options including 256GB or 512GB. The best part is that the storage is removable, and can be upgraded.
Microsoft claims that the battery life goes up to 23 hours of video playback and 16 hours of web browsing. That’s great news for all Windows users who want a long-lasting laptop.
The 12-inch Surface Pro is a perfect 2-in-1 device, featuring a 2196×1464 resolution PixelSense LCD and the same Snapdragon X Plus chip for powerful performance. What really sets it apart is its flexibility. It comes with a detachable keyboard, support for the Surface Slim Pen, and a precision touchpad that adapts to how you’re using the device. The Slim Pen also attaches magnetically to the back of the Pro, making it easier to carry.
Microsoft has opened up pre-orders in India, with availability set for July 15, 2025. While the India pricing isn’t out yet, in the US, the Surface Laptop 13-inch is priced at $899, and the Surface Pro 12-inch comes in at $799.
So, whether you’re a creator, a student, or just someone who wants an AI-packed Windows machine with killer battery life, Microsoft’s latest Surface refresh might just be your next upgrade.
