While AI is the talk of the town, we shouldn’t forget AR, which will eventually work hand in hand. Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that it’s working on an upcoming full holographic glasses, which could be the most advanced AR glasses in the market. What’s great is the company plans to make them commercially available, unlike some brands that have plans limited to prototypes. But what is this upcoming piece of tech that Zuckerberg couldn’t stop talking about? Read to find out.
In an interview with Business Insider, Zuckerberg revealed that Meta is working on full holographic glasses. He said that everyone he showed the glasses to was giddy about it.
“Every person who I’ve shown it to so far, their reaction is giddy. I’m really looking forward to showing that to more people.”
Meta is said to demonstrate the first version of its next true AR glasses called Project Orion at Meta’s annual Connect conference in the fall (September) this year. These advanced glasses Zuckerberg was talking about may show up at the annual conference.
However, Zuckerberg clarified that the company doesn’t want to just focus on prototypes, but rather work on a full consumer version of it. The prototype of the glasses may not be the most stylish one and may have thicker frames to accommodate the AR tech, as hinted by Zuckerberg.
The consumer version will be unmistakably glasses, meaning that the product should be comparatively slim and not hefty like Meta’s Quest headset.
Further, the Meta CEO stated how the demand for Meta Ray-Ban glasses surged and exceeded the expected sales. As a result, the company has been focusing on integrating as much AR tech in the glasses, while keeping the form factor like modern glasses.
While these upcoming AR glasses appear to be interesting, unfortunately, we do not know much about the device yet. However, we expect Meta to shed some light on the product at the Meta Connect conference.
It is worth noting that not just the CEO, but even Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth spoke about the AR glasses sometime back. He stated that the upcoming AR glasses could be “the most advanced piece of technology on the planet in its domain.” That itself is a big claim and we can’t wait to see what Meta has in store for us.
