Rockstar Games has once again pushed back the release of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). The highly awaited game was earlier set to arrive on May 26, 2026, but will now launch on November 19, 2026. This is the second delay for the title, which was first planned to release in late 2025. Also Read: 7 Open World Games To Play Before GTA 6 Releases
The studio confirmed the delay through an official statement, saying it needs additional time to ensure the final product meets the level of quality and polish fans expect. Rockstar added that it is “incredibly excited” for players to explore Leonida – the fictional US state based on Florida – featuring a modern version of Vice City. In the statement, Rockstar apologised to fans for extending the wait, thanking them for their patience over the years. The developer said the extra months will allow its teams to fine-tune gameplay and visuals before the global release.
Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and… pic.twitter.com/yLX9KIiDzX

The delay comes shortly after reports of job cuts at Rockstar’s UK studios, where around 30 employees were let go in October. Despite internal restructuring, the company reassured players that GTA 6 remains its top development priority.
Rockstar has so far released two official trailers for GTA 6, with the second dropping in May this year. The nearly three-minute video offered a closer look at the game’s protagonists, Jason and Lucia, a criminal duo navigating life in Leonida. The trailer also teased several new characters, locations, and activities that will be part of the expanded open world.
The upcoming sequel will be the first new mainline GTA release in more than a decade, following GTA 5 from 2013. That title went on to become the second best-selling video game of all time and continues to see strong engagement through GTA Online.
With the new release window set for late 2026, GTA 6 is now expected to be one of the costliest games ever made – and potentially one of the biggest launches in gaming history.
