Earlier this year, Google Cloud made Gemini 2.5 Flash available to regulated Indian customers with local machine-learning processing. Now, the company is opening early testing for its latest Gemini models – the most advanced versions yet.
Apart from these, Google is also bringing a suite of local AI tools, such as support for Gemini 2.5 Flash, allowing businesses to handle high-volume AI tasks within India. Moreover, it may also bring Document AI, now in preview, to help automate document-heavy workflows for Indian organisations and grounding on Google Maps, a new feature that enables AI applications to offer location-aware, real-time answers.
Google Cloud is also turning its focus to India’s AI talent and innovation ecosystem. For this, the company announced a collaboration with IIT Madras and Google DeepMind to support the launch of Indic Arena – a public benchmarking platform run by AI4Bharat that will evaluate AI models across India’s diverse languages.
“At AI4Bharat, our mission is to build AI for India’s specific needs,” said Mitesh Khapra, Associate Professor at IIT Madras. “Indic Arena will be that platform. We are delighted to have Google Cloud’s support to provide the initial compute power to bring this independent, public-facing project to life.”
