2025 has been a year of tech layoffs since the beginning. Now, as we are moving towards the end of it, e-commerce giant Amazon seems to have layoff plans ahead. As per a report by Fortune, Amazon is preparing to cut around 15 percent of its staff. However, the main job cut is expected to hit the human resources (HR) department. According to the report, it is internally known as the People eXperience Technology team (PXT). news Also Read: Apple May Soon Let iPhone Users Replace Siri With Third-Party Assistants, But There’s A Catch

The PXT division is no small team it has over 10,000 employees globally and includes recruiters, HR professionals, and tech teams that help manage the company’s massive workforce. According to the report, the upcoming layoffs could impact a huge chunk of that group.

Amazon Layoffs: Who Will Be Impacted

But it is not just HR. Other departments of Amazon are also expected to be affected by the latest layoff plans, including its consumer devices unit, the Wondery podcast division, and even Amazon Web Services (AWS). These are the same areas where the company made smaller job cuts earlier this year.

Sources told Fortune that these discussions are being handled differently from the company’s usual “unregretted attrition” (URA) process, which is a system Amazon uses to let go of a set percentage of employees every year. This time, the cuts seem to be more targeted and tied to a bigger part of the company.

Unsurprisingly, the recent shift is toward AI. Amazon is reportedly looking to reduce employee costs while using those massive investments into artificial intelligence. The company has already said it plans to spend over $100 billion this year to expand its AI and data centre infrastructure.
