Qualcomm has officially unveiled its long-rumoured flagship mobile chip – the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 – a processor set to drive the Android flagships of 2026. Xiaomi is taking the lead by introducing it with the Xiaomi 17 series in China today. But that’s not the only brand gearing up for the new silicon. POCO has now confirmed that its “next-gen flagship smartphone” will also feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The company hasn’t revealed the name of this phone yet, but industry reports strongly point toward the upcoming POCO F8 lineup. Given POCO’s history of using Qualcomm’s top-tier chips in its Ultra models, many expect the new processor to debut in the POCO F8 Ultra. For context, the POCO F7 Ultra was powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, making the Ultra variant a logical choice for Qualcomm’s latest. That said, speculation around the POCO F8 Pro has also been building. Reports suggest it could be a rebadged Redmi K90, a device rumoured to come with a 6.59-inch flat RGB OLED LTPS panel boasting 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Other key highlights could include an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, a large 7,100mAh battery with support for 100W wired charging, dual stereo speakers, and a solid metal mid-frame for a premium in-hand feel. An X-axis linear motor is also said to be included for better haptics.
If this rebranding holds true, POCO fans could see most of these specs carried over to the F8 Pro. Still, the biggest mystery is which model – the F8 Ultra or F8 Pro – will be the one to showcase the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. With POCO staying tight-lipped for now, we’ll have to wait for its official reveal to get a clearer picture.
