Apple’s iPhone 16 series is just a month away from launching, as its arrival is anticipated to be in September. While we wait for the official announcement of the event, we have news for Apple fans waiting to grab the upcoming 16 models. LG and Samsung, two of Apple’s approved display makers this year, have reportedly begun mass production of the display panels of the iPhone 16 models. This time around, there will likely be four models – the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. All models will have different screen sizes if we go by the news. As per a Korean blog post, Apple has ordered 80 million screens from Samsung and 43 million panels from LG. This is slightly more than its estimated total iPhone 16 shipments this year, i.e. 90 million. Also Read: Black Friday Sale Alert: Best iPhone Deals On Croma With MASSIVE Discounts
Despite the lower number of panels being mass-produced by LG when compared to Samsung, it is said to benefit from this as the mass-production number for its panels has gone up by almost 10 million compared to last year. Both Samsung and LG are in line with the production schedule this time. That’s notable as LG had faced delays in OLED production in 2023 and 2022.
Before you ask, China’s BOE doesn’t appear to be Apple’s priority this year as it’s facing approval issues for the iPhone 16 lineup. So we may not see BOE panels on the 16 models. But that doesn’t mean it’s out of the game just yet. Apple may consider it next year. For now, though, Samsung and LG are the two major providers of iPhone 16 panels.
Other than this, as mentioned above, the iPhone 16 models this time are expected to have different screen sizes. The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a 6.3-inch OLED panel, whereas, the iPhone 16 Pro Max may jump from a 6.7-inch screen size to a larger 6.9-inch panel. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus may retain the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes.
Apple may make the bezels a tad bit slimmer this time, however, don’t expect any major difference. Unfortunately, the base iPhone models may still have 60Hz refresh rate screens this year. The 16 Pro models will get the 120Hz ProMotion panel.
That’s about the display. Other changes in the series include a better camera system for the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max may get a new 48MP ultrawide lens, replacing the 12MP sensor. All models may be powered by an A18 chipset and get battery upgrades. Expect Apple Intelligence across models with iOS 18.
