
Google has formally announced the launch of the Gemini mobile app in India. The updated mobile app of Google’s Gemini AI assistant supports nine local languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, and others. This update makes the app more convenient for people to converse in vernacular language, allowing them to get their queries resolved or get content generated in their mother tongue. Google Gemini mobile app now supports 9 Indian languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Urdu. The app is currently available only on Android through Play Store. iOS users have to rely on the Google app to access Gemini. However, we should see the Gemini app on iOS soon. That said, as of now only Android users can have a discourse with Gemini in local languages.
Here’s how you can install the Gemini app on your smartphone.
Step 1: Open Google Play Store on your Android smartphone.
Step 2: Tap on the Search bar and type Gemini. You should see the Gemini app in the results.
Step 3: Tap on the app and Install it by tapping on Install.
Step 4: Open the app once installed.
Step 5: Sign in and start asking your query in any supported local language.
Other than this, Google has also added the Gemini features in Google Messages in English, as revealed by Sundar Pichai on X.
Google’s Gemini AI is powered by Gemini 1.0 Pro, which is a free-to-use AI chat assistant. However’s also a paid option called Gemini Advanced, which is based on Gemini 1.5 Pro. The AI model has a 1 million token context window and is smarter at understanding and deciphering things.
Google at the I/O event revealed that it plans to integrate the Gemini features into its other apps such as Gmail, Google Messages, YouTube, and others.
Google is competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot AI. The latter’s AI prowess is also powered by OpenAI’s GPT models. Both AI chatbots come in free and paid tiers. ChatGPT already supports some local languages in India such as Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Punjabi, and others.
