Google in May announced new cross-device services for Android. Two of the notable features, Call casting and Internet sharing are now rolling out to Android devices. The former lets you cast calls to your other devices running on the same Google account, whereas, the latter lets you share the Internet with other devices easily. Both features are now available on the latest beta version of Google Play services. Let’s see how the features exactly work and how you can use them on your device.
The Call casting feature lets you move calls from one device to another nearby device that’s signed in to your Google Account. This way, you do not have to end the call to just join from another device. We see how this can be very useful for those who simply want to move calls or video calls to a better device, probably a tablet for that big screen. Or, it could be that the battery on the phone that’s on call is about to die, so you can easily cast the call to another nearby device with the same Google account.
While this feature sounds interesting, it’s available in only select apps. The feature is currently working on Google Meets just fine. As for how to access and use the feature, all you need to do is head to Settings and search for the Set up your device group tab. Once done, you are all set to cast the call to a nearby device.
Coming to the Internet sharing feature, lets users automatically share hotspot access to their own devices. This way you do not have to always manually turn on the hotspot for sharing the Internet with your other devices. However, this needs your Bluetooth and device location turned on at all times. To access this, head to Settings and search for Internet sharing, now turn on the Instant hotspot.
Both of these features are available on Google devices running beta version 24.23.34 of Google Play services. Another prerequisite to using the new cross-device features is to use phones and tablets running on Android 11 or above.
