Apple is all set to introduce two new variants of AirPods 4. According to the latest reports, the upcoming variants will replace both AirPods 2 and AirPods 3. Mark Gunman, a popular Apple analyst, has suggested in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg that the new AirPods are coming this fall along with multiple hardware updates. Out of the two variants, one will be entry-level and the other will serve the mid-tier segment.

What will be the difference between the two upcoming AirPods models?

The most noteworthy difference between the two is be integration of active noise cancellation (ANC). Obviously, the mid-tier version will come with ANC and the entry-level version will miss out on it. With this step, Apple is aiming to make ANC reach a broader range of audience. The feature was previously only available for the AirPods Pro.

The upcoming AirPods 4 will most probably get USB Type-C charging, supporting Apple’s cause of eradicating the Lightning connector. In addition, the mid-tier variant will also get wireless charging. The entry-level variant will be will be an accurate offering for buyers who don’t want to burn a hole in their pocket. Furthermore, the mid-tier variant will focus on pleasing the audiophile audience with features like ANC.

As of now, there is no official branding announced by Apple for the upcoming variants. However, speculations are that the entry-level variant will be named Apple AirPods Lite and the mid-tier one will be named Apple AirPods 4. Nonetheless, readers are suggested to take the information with a grain of salt until the branding is confirmed by Apple.
