Asus has confirmed the ROG Ally successor’s announcement date. The Asus ROG Ally X will be the next handheld gaming console that will be announced next month. Along with its arrival date, its key specifications have also been revealed in an official video posted on the ROG Global YouTube channel. The next generation of the device will be a slight upgrade, trying to fix what the existing Ally missed. Let’s see the release date and features of the ROG Ally X.
The Asus ROG Ally X is confirmed to be announced on June 2. This means we won’t have to wait for too long. However, that’s a few weeks earlier than the release of the ROG Ally.
While no availability details have been confirmed, we expect it to be available in India since the first-generation handheld console is present in the region and can be purchased on Amazon and Flipkart. It can also be bought at Asus stores and on the company’s official website.
Coming to the specifications of the handheld console, the ROG Ally X may not be a major upgrade over the predecessor. Rather, it will receive some extra features and specs we wanted in the original ROG Ally. This includes a larger battery and more storage. The ASUS Senior Vice President Shawn Yen revealed that the next handheld console’s battery will be more than just a 30-40 percent improvement. This is great news for those who didn’t consider the existing device for battery issues.
Apart from the battery, expect more RAM and storage. Asus is also said to upgrade the SSD storage slot from an M.2 2230 slot to a better M.2 2280 slot. Further, we may see more than one USB Type-C port and some changes to the controls.
The design of the console and the chip that will power it is expected to be almost the same as the current model. So expect a large 120Hz display and a Ryzen Z1 chipset. The existing console has two chip models. It will be interesting to see if the new Ally X will also arrive in two versions or be a single model. Lastly, an all-black colour appears to be coming.
We expect to learn more about the console in the coming weeks.
