Asus ROG Ally X is finally available in India following its global launch in June. It is an upgrade over the first-generation ROG Ally, featuring performance improvements, better design, and better-optimised software. Even though it is not a second-generation device, it looks different from last year’s Ally. With a sleek black body, the Ally X now has comfier joysticks and an enhanced Armory Crate Special Edition (ACSE) 1.5 for streamlined controls and better customisation options with the Windows operating system at the core.
The new ROG Ally X costs Rs 89,990 compared to the ROG Ally’s current price of Rs 54,500. It will be available from the Asus ROG Store, the company’s online shop, Flipkart, and Amazon.
Even though the ROG Ally X is based on the same platform as the ROG Ally (Review), it will offer a better handheld gaming experience. An AMD Z1 Extreme CPU powers the console while a Radeon 780M iGPU, packing 12 Compute Units, runs high-level graphics. The new console is capable of running AAA titles in full-HD resolution at high frames per second. It packs 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM, which runs at 7500MTps, and a 1TB M.2 NVMe Gen4 SSD, expandable up to 4TB. Asus has upgraded the device’s thermals with a better Zero Gravity thermal system that now has a third air vent for extra airflow. The company claims the extra chamber vent can keep the system 8 degrees cooler and the panel up to 6 degrees cooler.
The Ally X has a 7-inch full-HD IPS LCD with a 120Hz variable refresh rate and a peak brightness of 500 nits. Asus says the display covers 100 percent of the sRGB colour space and supports multipoint touch. AMD’s Radeon Super Resolution (RSR), FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), and the Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) make visuals “look sharper and run smoother than ever.” It also has an upgraded audio system with support for 5.1.2-channel surround sound, fine-tuned by Dolby Atmos. You also get a free lifetime subscription to the Dolby Access app to customise the audio output.
Its connectivity options include two USB-C ports, one of which supports a USB 4.0 connection at 40GBps data speed. That means you can plug in Thunderbolt e-GPUs to add more power to the integrated GPU. There is Wi-Fi 6E, which the company claims can provide high-speed internet even in congested networks. There’s also a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Asus ROG Ally X packs an 80Wh battery that can support up to 100W fast charging. However, the one you get with the console has a maximum output of 65W. The Asus ROG Ally X weighs 678g.
