OpenAI has officially started rolling out ChatGPT 5.1 with several enhancements and upgrades. This is the latest upgrade to the company’s popular AI platform. The tech giant unveiled the new GPT 5.1 with an aim to improve both conversation and problem-solving capabilities. To recall, OpenAI launched GPT 5 in August, and since then, the company has received mixed reactions toward the AI platform. After making several improvements, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT 5.1 in two variants.
OpenAI launched ChatGPT 5.1 in two variants, including GPT-5.1 Instant and GPT-5.1 Thinking. Both models are designed to meet the requirements of different users and their needs based on their interaction styles.
The ChatGPT 5.1 Instant model is introduced for daily interactions and will provide quick and natural dialogue responses. In addition, it will also ensure that simple questions are answered almost immediately.
Talking about the GPT 5.1 Thinking, the model is introduced to tackle complex problems that require multiple-step reasoning. It answers based on the difficulty of the questions and replies with thorough explanations, especially for challenging questions.
One of the striking features of ChatGPT 5.1 is the introduction of the 8 personality modes, including Default, Professional, Friendly, Candid, Quirky, Efficient, Nerdy, and Cynical. Users can update the responses by adjusting warmth and emoji. These modes create more personalized and engaging responses and chat experiences.
ChatGPT 5.1 is available to Pro, Plus, and Business subscribers. However, free accounts will be able to access it after a few months. If you belong to the Enterprise or Education, then you can also enjoy a week-long preview before the model becomes default.
GPT-5.1 also brings improvements in technical skills, excelling in math challenges like AIME 2025 and programming tasks on platforms such as Codeforces. The Thinking variant simplifies complex topics, breaking them down into clear and easy-to-understand explanations without technical jargon
