Google is always at the centre to technological innovation and now the company is also taking a significant step in AI-driven meteorology. The tech giant has launched an advanced weather forecasting model called WeatherNext2, designed for both researchers and general users. The new weather forecast model is generated on GenCast model, and hence, it delivers fast predictions and high resolution. In addition, it is also said to offer broader accessibility.
WeatherNext2 is a new model by Google DeepMind for forecasting weather reports to researchers and general users. The model is integrated into several other Google platforms, including Earth Engine, BigQuery, and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI. All there integration is part of the early access program in Google DeepMind.
The WeatherNext2 is already powering features on platforms like Google Search, Pixel Weather, Gemini, and Google Maps Weather API. These features will allow users to experience highly detailed forecasts instantly.
According to DeepMind, the WeatherNext2 is 8 times faster than its predecessor, delivering hourly forecast resolution. It is precision in its weather tracking and can generate hundreds of weather scenarios. It can deliver instant weather update from a single input in under a minute using just one Tensor Processing Unit.
Google DeepMind says, WeatherNext2 is built on Functional Network architecture, and hence it can generate multiple realistic weather possibilities instead of single forecast. Not only this, the tech giant also mentions that its WeatherNext2 has outperformed the GenCast in 99.9% of for up to 15 days. GenCast is also an AI weather model developed by Google DeepMind.
