Google is supercharging its search engine with a new feature called Search Live. This feature is rolling out in AI Mode for users in the US via Google Labs. The new tool allows users to have conversations with Google’s AI. This is a custom version of Google Gemini that can be used directly in the Search app.

Real-Time Voice Search Is Here

The Search Live feature is still in beta and currently being tested. It appears just below the regular Google search bar in the Google Search app and takes voice-based search to a whole new level. Users can ask their queries, and the AI model responds with spoken-word answers.

For example, a user can ask, “What should I eat for lunch?”. Along with spoken responses, it also provides links to places where the user can actually go have lunch. The conversation can flow naturally, allowing users to ask follow-up questions.

For example: “Where can I get the best Chinese food?”. The search then gives more links based on that specific query.

Google is planning to make this even more immersive by adding camera integration. Users will be able to point their camera at an object and ask real-time questions about it. This feels very similar to Gemini Live, but fully integrated into the Google Search app.

Google’s Bigger Plan

Search Live is part of Google’s broader vision for AI-powered search. The company is working to evolve in this new AI landscape by integrating AI capabilities directly into its search engine. It’s clear that Google is serious about bringing more and more AI features into its ecosystem, something they strongly emphasised at I/O 2025.

This push comes as major players like OpenAI and Anthropic have also stepped into the voice-based AI space. OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode is already live in ChatGPT, while Anthropic has launched a similar feature in Claude.
