Microsoft says that the new model is trained with the goal of delivering genuine outputs for the creators, instead of generating repetitive or generic images. “For example, we prioritised rigorous data selection and nuanced evaluation focused on tasks that closely mirror real-world creative use cases – taking into account feedback from professionals in the creative industries,” the company said in a statement.
The model reportedly offers a strong balance between speed and detail, generating lifelike images faster than most existing tools. MAI-Image-1 is part of Microsoft’s broader AI strategy, which also includes tools like MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-1-preview – showing the company’s goal of building its own space of generative AI systems.
Unfortunately, the model is yet to be available to everyone. However, you can try the MAI-Image-1 model in LMArena right now, where it has been tested publicly. LMArena is a public, web-based platform that allows you to evaluate large language models anonymously. Later, Microsoft plans to make the model available in Copilot and Bing Image Creator.
