WhatsApp is yet again testing a couple of features that will take user privacy to the next level. According to a report published by WAbetaInfo, WhatsApp could soon bring the username and PIN feature to the application. The WhatsApp username feature will let the users go for a username instead of showing their number to everyone. news Also Read: 5 Hidden WhatsApp Privacy Settings You Probably Missed

This feature will enable users to choose whom they want to share their mobile number with. As per the reports, WhatsApp will have three privacy settings including Phone Number, Username, and Username with PIN. news Also Read: Meta Rolls Out New “Advanced Chat Privacy” Feature on WhatsApp for Enhanced Security

WhatsApp username feature details

If someone selects the Username option on WhatsApp then they can keep their contact numbers hidden on the application. All the new contacts of the person will only get to see their user name in the profile section. Nonetheless, old users will have access to the contact number regardless of the setting.

Similarly, if someone on the platform chooses the Username with PIN option then they will be able to share a four-digit PIN with other users. Now, only people with a PIN can connect to a particular user on WhatsApp. While we agree that both the new security features are going to be helpful in the long run, a major downside is that the contact who already has the phone number will be able to see that despite any update in the settings.

We can expect that WhatsApp will bring some workaround for the loophole in the upcoming beta versions of the application. As of now, you can enjoy the feature by getting the WhatsApp Android beta version 2.24.18.2. There is no confirmation regarding the launch of the WhatsApp username feature for the stable version of the app. However, if things work out in the right direction, we will soon get to see the WhatsApp username feature making it to the stable version.
