WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging platforms with over 2.95 billion active users. The global messaging platform processes almost 140 billion messages daily. The meta-owned company now and then releases updates to make the platform smooth for its users. However, this time it might not be good news for everyone as the company is reportedly stopping support for some of the old iPhones. Yes, you heard it right! Starting next year, the company will not support a list of old iPhones which means you need to check whether or not your iPhone is in the list.
If you are still using an old iPhone then it’s time for you to upgrade to a newer version. WhatsApp will not support iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. The reason for dropping the support is that these old iPhones will not be able to update beyond iOS 12.5.7. However, all other iPhone models will remain compatible as long as they are running the latest available iOS version.
Some of the users have already received the notification stating that WhatsApp will stop supporting their version of iOS after 5 May 2025. If your device is running on iOS versions earlier than 15.1 then make sure either you update your iPhone or go for the iPhone that continues to support the recent update.
Recently, WhatsApp supports iOS 12 and later and with further enhancements and updates, the app will require either iOS 15.1 or newer updates. The notice period of the update is 5 months so that users have an ample amount of time to update their iPhones. One of the major reasons for making this change is that the newer iOS version comes with updated and improved technologies and if your device doesn’t support the recent version of iOS, then it becomes difficult to deliver new features.
Starting 5 May the company will stop supporting the normal as well as business accounts on WhatsApp on iPhones before iOS 15.1.
Go to the settings on your iPhone and tap on the General option. Now go to Software Update and install the latest version.
