LinkedIn has become the latest company to bring TikTok-like short videos to its platform. It joins companies such as Instagram, YouTube and Netflix that have introduced a similar feature on their platforms. The company has confirmed that it is testing a new video feed in its app that will host short vertical videos from creators on the platform. The feature was spotted by McKinney Strategy Director Austing Null who shared a short video of the feature in development in his feed.
It is worth noting that LinkedIn does let users share videos on its platform. However, as of now users can only share videos in horizontal format that are a maximum of 15 minutes long when uploading from desktop or 10 minutes long when uploading from the LinkedIn mobile app on Android or iOS. But now, the company is testing a new video format that will let users share videos that are popular on other social media platforms and have become popular among both users and creators for sharing content across genres.
The short video shared on LinkedIn shows that the company will introduce a dedicated Video tab in its Android and iOS apps that will house all the short-format vertical videos in an infinity loop format. These short vertical videos will show content pertaining to job searches and career growth that is akin to the platform. The horizontal videos, on the other hand, will continue to appear in the Home section of the LinkedIn app.
In statement to TechCrunch, LinkedIn confirmed that users will not only be able to share and watch videos in its Video tab but they will also be able to like a video, share the videos with other others and leave a comment on the videos. Talking about its decision to introduce this feature, the Microsoft-owned company said that videos are becoming popular among its users and expert, which is why it has started testing this new feature.
As far as availability is concerned, LinkedIn has just started testing this feature and at this point it remains unclear when it will become available to its users globally.
