Instagram is one of the most popular social media apps, with millions of users uploading their Reels on a daily basis. The app is now taking a major step in giving users more control over what they see on their feeds. The photo and video-sharing app is testing a new feature that allows select users to fine-tune the Reels and explore algorithms. The new update will allow users to decide which topics interest them and which don’t.

What is Instagram’s New Tune Your Algorithm Feature

Instagram is working on a new feature called ‘Tune You Algorithm’ that will come up with a new and fresh way for users to change their experience on the app. This new interface will allow users to browse a list of suggested topics and add ones they like. In addition, they can also remove what they don’t like and no longer appeal to them.

The new feature, New Tune Algorithm, will change the focus from passive viewing, where the app decides what appears on your Instagram app. Now, there will be active curation, where users can train the system based on their preferences.

Adam Mosseri Announced the Feature

Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s lead, announced the new update via Threads. He also shared how the feature will work and what the Instagram interface will look like. He described it as ‘a meaningful new way to shape what you see.’

How the Feature Works

STEP 1: The first step is to open the new tuning interface on your Instagram app.

STEP 2: Now, access the Tune Your Algorithm option

STEP 3: Here, you will be able to browse the suggested topics. Review the topics that Instagram recommends as on your interests

STEP 4:You can also add subjects you want the algorithm to prioritize in your Reels feed.

STEP 5: In addition, you can also deselect the topics you don’t like

One of the most important things to remember here is that the Tune Your Algorithm feature will initially be available only to Reels. The video-sharing platform will expand the feature in the Explore Tab in the coming months.

Is Tune Your Algorithm Coming to Threads, Too?

Mosserri also hinted that the upcoming Tune Your Algorithm will also be part of the Threads, the company’s text-based app.
