Google Photos just hit its 10th anniversary. Over 1.5 billion users are storing a whopping 9 trillion photos and videos on this platform. Every month, people perform 370 million searches, share 440 million memories, and edit 210 million photos. These are some crazy numbers and show some serious love for memories. Google revamped the photo editor to bring AI suggestions and manual controls together. The cool Reimagine and Auto Frame features in the Pixel 9 phones are coming to more Android devices starting June 2025. iPhone users will also get these features later this year. To make the celebration better, Google has also made sharing photo albums way easier. Now, you can generate a QR code for any album. This makes sharing instant and friends can just scan the code to instantly view and even add photos to the album.
Under the Collections section, there’s a new Places tab that maps out where your photos were taken. It’s a great way to relieve trips and see all your travel memories in one place.
Now searching photos got a serious upgrade. Now you can use natural language phrases like “me in a blue jeans” or “night sky with full moon” to find shots quickly.
Google Photos keeps making it easy to relive moments with automatic monthly and yearly collections. This new feature makes it even easier to create memories by selecting people, pets, or places. Just tap the plus icon and choose “Highlight video” to instantly generate shareable clips.
Now, shared albums can update themselves with new photos featuring specific people or pets you choose. This makes everyone’s memories fresh.
With this new update, Google has introduced new grid controls. This lets you tidy up your feed by hiding memes, GIFs, or grouping similar photos. Plus, memory settings let you hide certain people, pets, or dates.
Everyone has faced the issue of running low on space. Now, Google has solved it as you acn just tap your profile picture and hit free up space to delete photos already backed up to the cloud. This frees up precious phone storage without losing your pics. Still, giving extra cloud storage on this 10th anniversary would’ve made things even more exciting.
The QR code album sharing is already rolling out now. The redesigned AI-powered photo editor will launch on Android devices in June 2025, with iOS users seeing it later this year. So, get ready to edit smarter and share easier.
