Vivo has entered the mixed reality space with the launch of its first headset – the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition. So far, Apple has dominated the AR and VR space with its Vision Pro headset since its reveal. Both headsets aim to offer a mixed reality experience, blending augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), but they differ in pricing, features, and approach. Here’s how the newly launched Vivo Vision compares to the Apple Vision Pro. Apple’s Vision Pro is already available in the US market with a starting price of $3,499 (approx. Rs 3.07 lakh). Vivo is yet to announce the price of the Vision Discovery Edition headset, though reports suggest it could carry a price tag of about CNY 10,000 (approx. Rs 1.22 lakh). That’s a big difference, making Vivo’s headset appear as the more affordable option. For now, neither Apple nor Vivo has announced plans to launch these devices in India. Apple’s Vision Pro is designed as a premium computing device for productivity and entertainment. It uses dual Micro OLED displays with a combined 23 million pixels, offering exceptional sharpness. The headset also supports foveated rendering, which makes the area you focus on appear in higher resolution.
Internally, the Vision Pro runs on Apple’s M2 chip alongside a new R1 processor, handling input from 12 cameras, 5 sensors, and 6 microphones. It also includes LiDAR, TrueDepth cameras for hand tracking, and Optic ID for iris-based security. The device runs on visionOS, allowing access to apps from Microsoft, Adobe, Zoom, and even Disney content. Another highlight is Apple’s Persona feature, which creates a digital avatar of the user for video calls.
Vivo Vision headset looks highly inspired from Apple, both in terms of design and naming schemes. It also features a similar glass front visor, detachable fabric seals, and an external battery pack. Weighing 398 grams, the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition offers comfort with multiple padding options.
On the specs side, it features dual binocular 8K Micro-OLED displays, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. Vivo has added its Blue Ocean power management system for better efficiency, while latency is claimed at just 13 milliseconds – almost matching Apple’s Vision Pro.
The headset brings 1.5-degree eye tracking, 26-degree depth recognition, and a 180-degree panoramic view, plus a virtual 120-inch cinema screen for immersive content. It supports spatial audio, 3D video capture, and mirroring from PCs and smartphones. Some advanced tools, however, work best with Vivo phones. Running on OriginOS Vision, the headset allows multi-window multitasking, immersive video playback, e-sports streaming, and game casting.
With Vivo stepping in, the mixed reality competition is heating up. Both Apple and Vivo are betting on this emerging category to shape the next big shift in personal technology.
