At the Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung unveiled two new truly wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds: Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. The new Galaxy Buds 3 series shows a departure in design from the company’s previous earbuds, featuring a new AirPods-like design. The white colour variant looks quite identical to Apple’s popular earbuds, but the company is still trying its new Buds 3 series to look different from the new gunmetal variant. Samsung says this model uses a new “blade” design, which includes sharp edges. This is the first time Samsung has switched to a stem design for its earbuds, leaving behind the legacy of unique in-ear earbud designs, including that on the Galaxy Buds Live. The new Galaxy Buds 3 series differs from its predecessors, meaning the controls have also changed. Much like the AirPods, the new Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro support pinch gestures for playback and swipes for volume control. The design, however similar to the AirPods, includes a new “Blade Light” that lights up to indicate the Bluetooth pairing status. While the functionality is currently limited, Samsung may leverage the lights to let you know the earbuds’ battery status. The designs of Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro are also slightly different. While the Buds 3 has an open design, the Buds 3 Pro has in-ear fitting with silicone tips, making for better isolation. Both earbuds support active noise cancellation. However, the Buds 3’s ANC may not be as good as the Buds 3 Pro’s due to lack of isolation. The Buds 3 Pro supports adaptive noise cancellation, meaning ANC will be automatically adjusted according to your surroundings. While the Buds 3 Pro uses enhanced 2-ways speakers and dual amplifiers, the Buds 3 has single drivers. Samsung claims its Ultra High-Quality feature allows support for a doubled sampling rate with SSC codec for high-resolution music output. Samsung says its own Bluetooth codec can now stream 24-bit/96kHz audio wirelessly, but there is still no support for LDAC. The Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 series has an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance, and they both support wireless charging. The earbuds still lack multi-device connection outside of Samsung’s ecosystem.
The new Galaxy Buds 3 series features Galaxy AI, too, so you always have AI assistance right at the tip of your finger while the output will be heard directly to your ear. Tools such as Interpreter can translate one language to another right within the earbuds, while the Voice Command feature will let you control functions such as playing or pausing music without manually touching the earbuds.
The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro costs ₹19,999, while the Galaxy Buds 3 is priced at ₹14,999. The pre-orders are now live from Samsung India’s website.
