The square camera island could be gone. Apple is expected to use a horizontal camera bar this time. Also, the titanium build might be dropped for a glass-aluminium finish, marking a fresh design move.
Alongside the usual black, grey, silver, and dark blue, the iPhone 17 Pro Max may arrive in a fiery orange finish - a bold change from Apple’s usual muted shades.
It’s expected to keep the 6.8-inch 120Hz ProMotion display, but rumours suggest a smaller Dynamic Island for a more immersive screen. Scratch-resistant coating may still be reserved for next year’s iPhone 18 series.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is tipped to get a 5,000mAh battery, the largest ever on an iPhone. That’s an upgrade from the 4,676mAh cell on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, it may also become slightly thicker, increasing from 8.25mm to 8.75mm.
The new iPhones could feature a 24MP front camera, up from 12MP on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Better selfies and clearer video calls are expected, with support for 2x cropping without losing quality.
Apple may finally bring a 48MP telephoto lens, joining the wide and ultra-wide lenses to create a triple 48MP setup. The zoom could shift to 3.5x optical instead of 5x, which might actually help with portrait shots. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro Max gets dual 48MP cameras and a 12MP camera for the telephoto.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is still a powerful and premium iPhone, but the iPhone 17 Pro Max brings upgrades in battery, cameras, and performance. Since it launches on September 9, it makes sense to wait and see the final details before deciding.
