Samsung's Bixby voice assistant to get generative AI features soon

Samsung may finally update the Bixby voice assistant with a much-needed change. The Apple Siri and Google Assistant rival is reported to get generative AI features soon to make it more user-friendly and prompt.

Samsung’s Bixby assistant to get smarter with AI features

Won-Joon Choi, Samsung’s executive VC at Samsung MX business told CNBC that ‘Bixby could be equipped with generative AI and become more smarter in the future’.

Samsung Bixby assistant is already sitting at the bottom when it comes to the list of top voice assistants. Arguably, other voice assistants available such as Google Assistant are smarter than Bixby, and Samsung hasn’t really updated its voice assistant with any crucial updates in recent times. That said, AI features may indeed offer an edge to Bixby and hopefully make it more responsive and smarter at solving queries.

If you have been a Samsung user for a while, you would know that Bixby isn’t just on smartphones, but also on the company’s smartwatches, TVs, and other devices. So AI features would essentially make the user experience better across Samsung devices.

For the unversed, Samsung previously partnered with Google to bring AI features throughout the UI on Samsung phones. We saw this with the Galaxy AI on the Samsung Galaxy S24 lineup. Now, it’s unclear if Bixby will incorporate AI features powered by Google AI (Gemini) or from the likes of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

As of now, there’s no further information on the same so we will have to wait until we hear more. Unfortunately, the exact timeline of Bixby’s AI update hasn’t been revealed.

In other news, Samsung’s Galaxy AI is reaching to nine more devices with the One UI 6.1 update. The supported devices include the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, S23+, and S23. The Galaxy S23 FE will also receive Galaxy AI features. Further, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra are also getting AI features.
