No matter how much we say that AI is not reducing jobs, the impact is real and in front of our eyes already. Salesforce, the American cloud-based software company, has announced that reduce its workforce from 9000 to 5000. Reason is the incorporation of AI agents, which is actually impacting the real workforce. Also Read: Vivo Launches OriginOS 6 Globally, Including In India: What’s New, How To Update
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in an episode of “The Logan Bartlett Show,” quoted by Business Insider, that the AI agents have been helping the company bring more sales leads. He supported the layoff while saying, “I was able to rebalance my head count on my support.” This comes just a few months after the statement by the CEO that AI does around 50 percent of work at Salesforce; however, there had been no plan for layoffs. During that time, he said that AI will eventually support and improve human work. Also Read: OpenAI Confirms Adult-Only ChatGPT With Custom Personalities And Erotic Conversations

“At the start of this year we deployed help.agentforce.com. Because of the benefits and efficiencies of Agentforce, we’ve seen the number of support cases we handle decline, and we no longer need to actively backfill support engineer roles. We’ve successfully redeployed hundreds of employees into other areas like professional services, sales, and customer success,” Salesforce spokesperson said in a statement.
And here we are.. 4000 job cuts due to AI!
As per the report, the AI agents help the company to break down tasks into multiple smaller steps. Each AI agent helps to take care of a specific task, which ultimately achieves a broader objective. According to Benioff, these AI agents have boosted the productivity of the company.
However, there are still 50 percent of conversations which are done by humans, while the rest are taken care by the AI this year. Over these, there is an “omnichannel supervisor” which helps human agents as well as AI agents to deal with customers.
“There were more than 100 million leads that we have not called back at Salesforce in the last 26 years because we have not had enough people. But we now have an agentic sales team that is calling back every person that contacts us,” Benioff said in the podcast.
Apart from Salesforce, other tech giants such as Nvidia has also incorporated AI agents for cybersecurity, software engineering and chip design.
