India is strengthening its war against cybercrime with four new verticals introduced by the government of India. Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the first Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C. The four verticals and the Cyber Commandos Program, Samanvaya, Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, and Suspect Registry.

Cybercrime control initiatives introduced by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre

Cyber Fraud Mitigation Program: This one will be dedicated to protecting individuals against cyber fraud and crime.

Cyber Commandos Program: With this initiative, the Government of India will train specialists in the country from the law enforcement agencies to deal with different types of cyber crimes.

Suspect Registry: A national registry will be created to handle all the details of the cybercrime suspects. All the data will be based on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.

Samanvaya: It will be a web-based platform for the cybercrime data repository, mapping, sharing, and analytics. The service will be used by the law enforcement agencies.

And that’s not it, the government is planning to train 5,000 cyber commandos in the next five years to tackle the issue of emerging cybercrime in India. The Cybercrime Coordination Centre has multiple institutions under it including the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, National Cyber Crime Investigation Task Force, Cyber Crime Ecosystem Management Unit, National Cyber Crime Forensic Laboratory, National Cyber Crime Forensic Laboratory, Joint Cyber Crime Investigation Task Force, and the National Cyber Crime Research and Innovation Centre.

In addition, Amit Shah also stated that the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre will kickstart a cyber security awareness program via digital ads, FM radio, etc. For those who are unaware, the I4C played a major role in identifying and banning the apps that were a threat to the country’s security like TikTok, WeChat, and more.
