Govt Bans 25 OTT Platforms Including ALTBalaji, ULLU, Mojflix Over 'Obscene' Content: Check Full List Of Apps

In a broad crackdown on obscene online content, the central government has blocked 25 OTT platforms, including popular ones like ALTBalaji, ULLU, Desiflix, and Big Shots App. The action was taken as a measure to curb the increasing availability of pornographic, vulgar, and obscene material on the streaming sites. The move aims to enforce stricter digital content regulation under Indian laws.

Content in “Serious Violation” of Indian Laws

According to officials from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, these platforms were found violating provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT Rules of 2021. The websites and applications were reportedly hosting sexually explicit material, mostly without any coherent storyline or social message. Most programs contained lengthy nudity scenes, sexual innuendos, and obscene dialogues, which the authorities considered pornographic in nature.

The officials pointed out that the objectionable content tended to be shown in sensitive contexts – including family settings – making the situation even more concerning.

Formal Blocking Orders Issued

While the government is yet to release an official public notice, sources confirmed that formal instructions have been issued to intermediaries and app stores to block access to the listed platforms. The ban includes both websites and mobile apps associated with the 25 OTT services.

The platforms affected include:

ALTBalaji (ALTT), ULLU, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, NeonX VIP, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, ShowHit, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Fugi, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, Triflicks, and Mojflix.

Crackdown Signals Stricter Oversight

This is not the first time the government has expressed concern over OTT platforms. Earlier, streaming services had been asked to adhere to self-regulation principles. But Thursday’s action clearly indicates a shift towards stricter control on online content to keep online platforms from being misused.
