Google has released the long-awaited ‘Ask Photos’ feature for some users. The feature is powered by artificial intelligence that lets users search through the contents of their photo library with questions. For instance, a search request can be set to “Halloween costumes” or “photos from a Paris trip.”
As part of Google, the Ask Photo feature is implemented based on AI and employs contextual inputs such as geolocation, face recognition, and dates. Especially when searching by people and locations, it works pretty well. However, some people have found its response to provide event-specific photos inconsistent. Currently, the feature is being provided only as a beta version for users from the United States.
“Ask Photos” is a part of Google’s attempt to improve its apps with AI features that allow users to interact with photos. It defines the more complex and common actual human language, which further helps search for the necessary pictures instead of losing much time scrolling through numerous images. This tool is the perfect new extension of the convenience associated with Google Photos.
Nonetheless, the feature is not as well-developed as one might expect. It seems to work well for people and geographical locations, but it could probably use more work when recognizing events. It is an incremental update after weeks or even days of waitlist sign-up, which means not all users will be able to get it right away, but more users over the next few weeks will have the update.
For now, it is only accessible to all those using the service from the United States, and the availability to others in other parts of the world will follow. Google is not leaving AI development behind and making services such as “Ask Photos” more intelligent and helpful.
