Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event scheduled from June 10 to June 14. As per a piece of new information, the Californian Giant may launch a dedicated Passwords app, allowing you to save and manage passwords. Currently, Apple has the iCloud Keychain that lets you save passwords on your iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices to seamlessly log in to apps or websites. The new dedicated Passwords app is reported to be powered by iCloud Keychain itself and work on more platforms like Windows computers. Let’s see everything we know.

Apple’s Passwords app could be a threat to LastPass and 1Password

Apple will reportedly launch its new Passwords app at WWDC on June 10, as per a Bloomberg report. The app is said to be powered by iCloud Keychain and will be introduced as part of iOS 18 on iPhones, iPadOS 18 on iPads, and macOS 15 on MacBooks and iMacs. Further, the Passwords app may also work on Apple’s Vision Pro headset and Windows computers. There’s no word if it will work on Android.

Moreover, the app will also support verification codes and work as an authentication app akin to Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. This new Passwords app of Apple appears to be very similar to popular apps like LastPass and 1Password, which offer the ability to save passwords and make logins easier.

Since we do not know much about Apple’s Passwords app, we cannot directly compare third-party alternatives yet. However, one interesting bit is that Apple may let users import their passwords and data from these rival services.

We are interested to see what the new Passwords app offers and whether will it be promising to switch from third-party services. We will know more only on Monday.

Apart from this, iOS 18 will also have more features and the major focus will be on AI. Apple is reported to offer AI-generated emojis, AI photo editing tools, and a host of AI and ML-backed accessibility features. Some of them it already revealed through a blog post last month such as AI-based eye tracking, Music haptics for songs, Vehicle Motion cues, and more.

Interestingly, Apple is reported to come with an improved Siri, which might as well have some artificial intelligence magic, so it stays up-to-date with other assistants. iOS 18’s list of other features includes Voice memo transcriptions, home screen customization, Smart Recaps, and possibly RCS adoptability.
